Parenting Programs

Parenting with Theraplay is an introduction to the underlying attachment and trauma principles of Theraplay® for adoptive parents, Special Guardians, foster carers and birth parents. Participants will explore the Theraplay dimensions, focusing on their own specific parenting style and concerns about their child. They will then practice ways of managing issues using Theraplay, trying strategies at home and feeding back to the group.

This intervention is a cost-effective way of providing a parent-focused Theraplay intervention, and it is also ideal as a preparation for those families who may move onto engagement with a formal Theraplay®  Intervention with their children. It is the only parent group intervention to be developed, overseen and accredited by Theraplay® UK and The Theraplay Institute.

The course can be held over 2 days, 3 days or 4 days.

As a training, e.g. foster carers and other staff, we recommend the 2 or 3 day course. As an intervention, we recommend the four day course as the additional contact time allows parents and carers to reflect on the difficulties they face. This can be funded by the ASF.
